45th APS Classic Motorcycle Racing Festival 2025
Friday January 31 - Sunday February 2 2025
ENTRIES
There will be a preferential entry period to allow regular NZCMRR participants seven days to secure an entry before entries open more widely.
The preferential entry period will be open only to Club members active in the 2024 Championship Rounds – that means entrants who have competed at, or been an official volunteer at, two or more other NZCMRR championship rounds throughout 2024 (excluding the 2024 APS Classic Festival). We will also reserve some entries for invited riders/bikes and for riders joining us from CAMS in the South Island. Entries will then be open for a further two weeks to everyone.
Entries will open Monday 18th November and close 23:59pm Sunday 8th December.
This entry window is much earlier than normal! This is necessary to allow time for us to complete the huge amount of admin work required to process all entries and will allow our volunteer team more time plan an event that creates a great experience for both riders and spectators.
We will run a similar waitlisting system as this year. Once any race group is booked out, entrants will be placed in Regularity Class pending a space becoming available in their appropriate race group.
There will be no late entries or entries on the day at this event, and pay-on-the-day will not be an option. There is so much to organise that we can’t justify these processes at this event.
Entry fees will be as follows;
- $550 for Seniors of MNZ Affiliated Clubs
- $495 for current NZCMRR members
- Free for Junior riders (under 18s, must be NZCMRR member)
- $250 for any member riding ONLY a Group 3 machine (Vintage, Prewar, Pre-63 and Classic 70s 0-250cc) that has not been run at any NZCMRR event in the last 12 months
- $200 for Regularity
- $295 for South Island NZCMRR members
- $350 for South Island non-members
OVERSUBSCRIBED GRIDS
Race Group Entries will be capped at the first 40 entries received. For any race groups where more than 40 entries occur, entry will be granted on a first-come first-serve basis. Any additional entries above 40 will be notified about their field being oversubscribed, and will be given the option of being waitlisted. Groups that are sufficiently oversubscribed may be split at the discretion of the race secretary and run as an “A” and “B” dependent on lap times.
Waitlisted entrants must pay the full entry fee. If any entrant withdraws before the event, they will then take their place, vacancies being awarded again on the basis of the time the entry was submitted (first-come first-serve). If a grid is still oversubscribed at the point of the event, any waitlisted entrants will be allowed to run with the Regularity class until such a time as a space becomes available. Waitlisted riders must achieve a qualifying time in the waitlisted qualifying group(s) on the Friday to allow the Steward to make a decision with regard to seeding the rider or allowing them to take the vacant spot on the grid. Partial refunds for waitlisted entrants will be decided as follows at the discretion of the race secretary;
- If a waitlisted rider fills a vacancy on the Saturday, then they are not eligible for any refund.
- If a waitlisted rider fills a vacancy on the Sunday and ran Regularity only on the Saturday, they will be refunded $150.
- If a vacancy is not available for a waitlisted rider, then they will be refunded the difference between their entry and the standard Regularity entry price.
Where a field is oversubscribed and the race event is underway, any entrant that withdraws due to machine failure and yields their spot to an entrant on the wait list may qualify for a partial refund at the discretion of the Race Secretary. Factors considered will include whether there is someone to replace them, and how far through the event they withdraw.
PITS
MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WILL ASK YOU WHAT PIT YOU WANT ON THE ENTRY, BUT WILL NOT CHARGE YOU UNTIL THEY ARE ALLOCATED.
Pits and garages are handled by our club this time around, and will all be allocated. We will allocate based on conversations we have had with riders, and at the point of entry you will be able to communicate what sort of pit or garage you would like, and who you would like to be pitted with. This does not guarantee you a space, but we will do our best to try and get you where you want to be. We have imposed minimum numbers per pit to ensure that there is enough space to go around. The following types of pits, with associated minimums, are available;
- Old single garages will be the Manfeild price ($90 per day, $50 pack-in) (2 competitor, 3 bike min)
- Pit lane garages will be the Manfeild price ($255 per day, $50 pack-in) (4 competitor, 5 bike min)
- Stables (far side) (2 bike min) are $80
- Stables (near side) (2 competitor min) are $100
- Open sealed pits (~4 x 10m) (3 bike min) are $100
- Open gravel pits (across from old garages) (~4 x 10m) (2 bike min) are $80
- Open grass pits (~3 x 12m) (2 bike min) are free
Early warning - for health & safety reasons, to create space for everyone and to ensure we put on a great show for our paying guests, we will need to significantly reduce the number of vehicles and race trailers which are parked in the immediate pit area.
As such, competitors in garages or stables will no longer be able to have vehicles or trailers next to their pits. Parking areas located behind the stables away from the track and by the Rata Street entrance in the compound will be available for this purpose. Open pits will be allowed vehicles (if you can fit them in!) however we implore you to make sure your bikes are set up at the front of the pit to maximise the spectacle for the public when they come through. Don’t forget that the more spectators we have, the cheaper the racing becomes! Make an effort, and present your bikes and pits well.
Only vehicles with 2025 Pit passes will be allowed into the Pits area – these will be mailed out before the event.

We will be running 8 Race Groups and 1 Regularity Group. Race Groups will be limited to 40 bikes on grid. Race groups and order is subject to change at the discretion of officials and the Race Committee however preferential grouping and order is as follows;

PRACTICE/QUALIFYING
All practice and qualifying is to take place on the Friday. A track-day style practice with speed groups will be run until midday, at which point an official rider’s briefing will be run. Qualifying will then be run in race groups, with an extra group(s) called “waitlisted” for all waitlisted riders to get a qualifying time. Each qualifying session will be 10 minutes in duration. Dependent on the number of waitlisted riders, multiple groups may be required at the discretion of the Race Secretary who will communicate this prior to the meeting.
REGULARITY
This event is to allow non-racing members, or members with a parade bike, the opportunity to parade on the race track. Entrants can ride either a racing machine which could be loaned for the event by a race entrant, or a suitable road machine. All machines in the parade must be presented for bike check and receive an inspection sticker before being let out on track. The NZCMRR Race Secretary reserves the right to accept or reject any rider or machine from this event as they see fit. A minimum of one clearly legible number plate facing forward at the front of the bike is required. If there is an issue with the nominated bike number you will be contacted. Leathers, a back protector, chest protector, and an approved helmet must be worn for safety reasons. Transponders are mandatory and must be fitted to the bike whilst on circuit. These events are not races and unsuitable riding will result in exclusion. Prizes will be awarded based on the most consistent lap times. These events will suit any club member who is not competing in race events, or a racer wishing to ride a machine that he has not been entered into the races. The parades are run under the general MNZ rules and require a competition licence. Facility to obtain a one event licence is detailed on the payment summary form. This event is open to solo machines only. Regularity riders will not run on the Friday (unless they are a waitlisted rider in which case they must achieve a qualifying time in the waitlist group). Regularity will run at least once on the Saturday, and at least twice on the Sunday. Regularity will not have a grid and the bikes do not need to qualify in order to participate.
Road bikes out in Regularity will need to have their sump plugs lockwired, mirror(s) removed, any any glass (headlight, taillight, etc.) either removed or taped over. Side or centre stands must be lockwired when out on track, or otherwise removed. The bikes must be well-presented or otherwise they may not be allowed out on track - dumping oil on the track results on a large delay for everyone!
NZ NATIONAL CLASSIC TTs
It is with great pleasure that the Committee of the NZCMRR announces that MNZ have given us 10 national titles to award for Classic TT races. This is intended to now become an annual feature of the APS Classic Motorcycle Racing Festival, where we all can race for national Classic titles. The trophy round that was traditionally run is now to be run at another race meeting, being displaced by the Classic TT racing.
All of the Classic TT races are to be 8 laps in duration. Because of the nature of the titles, the Classic TT races are run with slightly different grouping, and in different order, to the regular Championship race rounds.
Qualifying for the Classic TT races will be done with the fastest 10 bikes in each class where there are more than two classes, or fastest 20 bikes in each class where there are only two classes. Any residual places will be offered to the next fastest qualifiers in that group regardless of class. Please note – no NZ Classic title shall be awarded where fewer than three machines in the relevant class complete 50% of the specified race distance.
There are 10 MNZ National Classic Titles on the line which will be run in the below order;
- New Zealand National Vintage Classic TT Trophy (pre-31 allcomers) and the New Zealand National Prewar Classic TT Trophy (pre-46 allcomers)
- New Zealand National Pre-63 Junior Classic TT Trophy (0-250cc and 251-350cc Clubman’s and Factory)
- New Zealand National Pre-63 Senior Classic TT Trophy (351-500cc Clubman’s and Factory)
- New Zealand National Classic 70’s Junior Classic TT Trophy (0-250cc and 251-350cc)
- New Zealand National Classic 70’s Senior Classic TT Trophy (351-500cc and Open)
- New Zealand National Postclassic F3 Classic TT Trophy (Pre-82, Pre-89, Pre-95)
- New Zealand National Postclassic F2 Classic TT Trophy (Pre-89, Pre-95)
- New Zealand National Postclassic F1 Classic TT Trophy (Pre-82, Pre-89, Pre-95)
- New Zealand National Sidecar Classic TT Trophy (Pre-63, Pre-82)
Each year, where there are multiple classes, we will change which class is competing for the national title, and all other classes will be competing for an equivalent NZCMRR TT title. As such, each class will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd across the line.
This year, the below classes are competing for the national title;
- Vintage allcomers and Prewar allcomers
- Pre-63 0-350cc Factory
- Pre-63 351-500cc Factory
- Classic 70’s 251-350cc
- Classic 70’s 351-500cc
- Pre-82 Junior
- Pre-89 F2
- Pre-82 Senior
- Classic 70's Sidecars
All other classes will be competing for NZCMRR titles. After racing concludes, there will be a Classic TT race prizegiving with a gold-coin BBQ and beers. If you know you have won an award, make sure you attend or else it may be given to the runner-up! Come enjoy an evening with your mates and celebrate an achievement. All competitors and pit crew are welcome. Tickets for this are being sold at the point of entry for $10 per person.
REFUNDS
Prior to the meeting, any entrant will be given a refund on his/her entry fee if for any reason attendance over the weekend is not possible. If a withdrawal is notified within 2 weeks of the event, refunds will be processed after the completion of the event. If an entrant fails to notify the race secretary until after the closing of sign-on, refunds will only be granted at the discretion of the Committee and Race Secretary.
